About Laura Camacho: Composer, bassist, and the founder of Athens Tango Project, Laura Camacho is currently a Ph. D. student in ethnomusicology at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas Austin. Camacho’s connection to tango began in her hometown of Buenos Aires, where she first experienced the music and dance while spending time with her grandmother in the historic neighborhood of San Telmo. She later studied at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory and performed with celebrated Argentine musicians, including Mariano Mores. Her current research focuses on emerging tango communities and the cultural exchange of tango between Argentina and the United States.
